Travelling to India while L1-H1 in process

Hello Everyone,

I am currently on L1 working for a company A. Company B has filed H1 for me with COS and it is still in process.

Now, I need to travel to India due to personal reasons and need to know if my H1 is approved while I'm in India can I come back to US on L1 visa (or) do I need to wait until I get my H1 visa stamped?

Any help you could provide will be appreciated.
