Please help - H1 Renewal but with issue

Hello Friends,

Please guide me in this situation,

My second H1B is filed for renewal now ( case pending ) at this date, My current is Project is cancelled which I came to know last week and they will be looking a new project for me but at present they don't have anything so their is possibility of potential layoff. My First H1 will expire on 03Aug, I have received the pending case receipt from my company lawyers which maintains my status but currently eagerly awaiting the approval receipt from USCIS to my lawyers, so once I receive the receipt I can search for other jobs, but just in case if the layoff happened prior the the approval receipt, what should I do in that case ?

Your comments and suggestions would be really helpful to me.
