How to find if my H1B visa is cap exempt or not?

Hello all,

I have a current H1 with a university and I was told that sometimes even though it is a university, I might have been subject to cap count.

How to find out if my H1 is cap exempt or not?

I think university job should be cap exempt. Can you talk with the international office of the university? If it is a consultancy job, maybe it is different.
