qbak
Hello all, My visa interview date is on June 26th 2012 and my passport expires on December 9th 2012. It is not exactly 6 months but pretty close. Do you think I will have problems in visa stamping? Please let me know soon Thanks much Link to comment
tux78
I think it is safer to extend the passport. There is a risk. It might work but they also might refuse you the visa. Or they might only give you visa unitl Dec 9th. Please consult a lawyer but if I were you, I would try to extend the passport first. Link to comment
LonelyMe
you should have gotten it renewed earlier, as passport re-issue takes on average 1-2 months. Non-immigrants traveling to the US are required to have passport un-expired valid for travel for 6 months and beyond. You can check with the US embassy and send in your details. Link to comment
LonelyMe
are you talking about US visa & re-entering United states with a newly stamped visa? My response was based on that... you can check with US Customs & border protection, officers at the Airport .All international airports have the CBP office, counter where you can ask for information on this. Be sure to show your current legal status document and passport, they usually ask for that. Link to comment
pontevecchio
In any case use tatkal and get a new passport before coming back. It does not matter if the visa is stamped in the old passport. Otherwise you will get an I94 valid only till the passport expiry. Link to comment
qbak
Thanks for the replies guys. I will be flying to Pakistan aftewards where i plan to renew my passport however I wanted to be sure if my passport needs to be valid for at least 6 months at the time of stamping. I am right now leaning towards postponing the trip Link to comment
qbak
Thank you for the information guys. I spoke to a consular over the phone and they notified that Pakistan, like India is exempted from the 6 months passport expiration rule. So I should be good. Thanks for the advice though.
