Port of entry in different state

Hi ,

I got the H1 visa and am planning to go by next month to USA.

My employer is in NJ, but am planning to take Chicago as port of entry and going to Minneapolis for now and will go to my employer(NJ) place after one week.

My question is,

Is it suggestible?

what is the best answer if they ask why are you going to different place than your employer?

I think there should not be any problem but consult a lawyer just to be safe.

As long as you are being honest and have all the documents ready, it shouldn't be a problem. If you are visitng friends/family or just traveling through Chicago just tell them that.
