Appointment 09:45 Monday 11th June, spend 75 minutes in Consulate.

Questions: Are you working for the same company? What are your duties? Do you have a higher degree? Why do you have O-1 rather than standard work visa? Visa is approved.

Email received with subject "LOOMIS has your passport but it's not ready to pickup" from laser.report@loomis-express.com at 22:25 on Wednesday 13th June..

Collected passport from Brampton Loomis on Thursday 14th, took just a couple of minutes. Round trip from Pearson airport to collect passport cost $82 in a cab and took about half an hour.

First Congratulations.

Did you had COS to O-1 in the US ?

what is your answer for the questions- "Why do you have O-1 rather than standard work visa?"

If you dont mind me asking, what is your job role in the US? The reason being I only come across few O-1 status holders and have never seen anyone who works in technology/science and business.

aruns,

As far as I am aware, if the H1-b quota gets filled, but the company really wants you, they will file for an O-1 visa. I have had many friends who were on J1, got a job, filed for O-1 because H1b was full. All of them were working as postdocs in chemistry. I don't know anything about stamping.

=> This is misleading information.

O1 has no relation with the H1b quota. One can file O1 for someone anytime. Unlike H1b, O1 has no limit of cap, or extensions. O1 is for people with extra ordinary qualities. Most of the PhDs qualify for O1. Getting O1 approval is tough because they want to see proof of being scholar, many published papers etc.

Dear wiweg, .

1) O1 has no relation with the H1b quota.- true. 2) One can file O1 for someone anytime-true. 3) Unlike H1b, O1 has no limit of cap, or extensions- true. 4) O1 is for people with extra ordinary qualities- true. 5) Most of the PhDs qualify for O1- true

6) Getting O1 approval is tough because they want to see proof of being scholar, many published papers etc. - true. That is why people go for H1b. But what if H1b quota is full, still the employer wants you? They file for O1, right? (you are good, that is why still the employer wants you). I have stated that all of the people who got O1 that I know are chemistry postdocs (Ph.Ds!!!!!!!). Now what was misleading you? The person who asked the question did not say what he does for a living. I was giving egs. of people who got O1.

No I did not change status to O-1 in the US, my initial visa was O-1. Yes, as suggested, the H1b quota was full when I was offered a job and the company went the O-1 route rather than employ me overseas for a year. And yes, I have a doctorate and publications that were supportive of my O-1 application. I am a quant developer.

Thanks for your response. How many publications? Any other international/recognized award?
