I am applying for "H4 VISA" for my wife. we got married earlier this year. She already has a passport with her maiden name on it.

Should we apply for a "Name Change" on her passport before we apply for her VISA ? What is a recommended approach here? Or keeping maiden name is recommended ?

Are there any pros/cons of any approach as far as VISA approval is concerned or any futhur issues?

Please suggest!

Thanks in advance for any advise!

Manik,

Did your wife got H4 stamped with her maiden name on passport ? I am also applying for my wife's H4 and she hasn't got the spouse name endorsed on the passport yet.

Thanks,

I am also planning to apply H4 visa for my Wife. did you get approved Visa for your wife?

did you update the passport by changing the maiden name??

Not Yet, We will be scheduling an appointment in the Month of May. Based on the research i have done so far, there is no need to change the spouses name after marraige.

Wish you both good luck.

Have a great year.

Thanks,

Updates,

My wife appeared for the interview and got thru. We did not change her name on the passport nor did we endorse my name.

Hope this helps.

Hi,

I will be applying for h4 dependent visa for my wife. Is it required to have her name changed and endorse spouse name? I ask this because:

1. I got a new passport earlier this year and on that her name is mentioned as with my surname?

2. My daughter's passport has again listed her name (mother's name) as with my surname?

Under the above circumstances, is it required to have her passport changed? She still have over 3 years of validity left.
