F1 to H1 conversion

Hi,

I am currently on OPT and it runs out in February 2012. I have a company willing to sponsor my H1 but as the quota is finished this year they want me to find an alternative. Can I join a school and work on CPT until they file my H1 until the start date of October? Are there any alternatives to work until then?

What if you don't get the CPT?

I think there's a rule that you need to have nine months of some status (not sure if it is schooling or visa or I-20) to get CPT.

Can you file for an OPT extension ?

I thought due to the STEM extension, you can get an additional 18-24 months.

I might be wrong.

Are you on your OPT after having finished your Masters ?

Some people have gone on to do a second Masters.

I don't know if it's possible to begin a second Masters until next year whenever, and drop it to so that you can work. However, it sounds so wrong as it's abusing the system really.

Someone here can help.

You can always return to the country and apply for a H1-B if they are willing to sponsor you. I hope the company's situations holds good until then, and that they can sponsor even at a later time.

Would it make a difference financially or procedure wise

if you apply for it from the US or outside once you are not using or in OPT anymore?

No real university will issue CPT, in particular not in the first year.

Forget CPT. That is dead. TVU killed it, and **** made sure it stays dead.

Cut that acronym out of your vocabulary.
