Edison, NJ - Driving License got renewed while H1b ext pending

Yes , you can renew your driving license in NJ , while your H1 approval is pending.

Not all DMV offices know about this rule but go to Kilmer, Edison and you will get it extended once for the period of 5 months.(hopefully you will get your H1B approval before that)

You need to show them original filing receipt.

I got it renewed for my wife as well. (h4)

One of the officers was asking for approved I-797 but I was fortunate because other senior officer overheard the conversation and said renewal is allowed once with the filing receipt.

If the officer says no, try to explain the situation calmly.

Kilmer, Edison has a large Indian population and Rutgers University. This makes local officers aware of rules for international applicants.
