Citizenship eligibility - 3 yrs on Work GC - exceptions???

I know ... I know .. For all work related GC people, citizenship eligibility is only after 5 years.

Are there any exceptions out there to apply with 3 years eligibility. If I'm not wrong, one of them is serving in military. Are there any other exceptions out there? 

I read somewhere longtime back (no sources unfortunately), if your present work is related to national security. There might be eligibility. 

Does anyone have any knowledge of this?
