If I reach USA before Feb 2024 and stay there for 1 year can I apply for citizenship or not? (as I am not planning to stay longer period) While I was in India my Tax filing in USA is continued / My stock accounts / Bank accounts / 401K accounts all are active. JoeF
With a GC you have to live in the US. It is called Permanent Residence for a reason. If you moved back to your home country you essentially have abandoned the GC. Because of that, any talk about citizenship is moot. Quote Link to comment
JoeF
And even with a reentry permit, you can only visit abroad. You still have to live in the US. Furthermore, besides having an active GC, you have to fulfill the residency and physical presence requirements as listed on the USCIS website. Quote Link to comment
