B2 Visa Extension of Stay after only 1month of granted stay

Hello,

My brother visited last week to US on a B2 visa, CBP officer only granted for 1 month of stay even though this is his first visit as his return ticket was for 5 months. Officer interviewed for 30 mins and he is not convinced to grant 5 month stay. In this scenario do you recommend to apply for extension of stay or does he leave on time and come back again after few months?

He is allowed to apply for Extension of Stay. Whether it would be approved is hard to say, but it will probably still be pending by the time he leaves in 5 months, in which case whether it would be approved or denied becomes moot, and it would automatically be considered abandoned.

Usually and generally stay is granted for 6 months. In his case I would ask him to leave on time and make a return visit in 2025.
