I am interested in doing PhD and I got admission from university. PhD will start in Fall, August 2022. I recently got married and my wife is in India at present. My PhD classes will start in last week of August. I have to apply change of status from H1B to F1 before start of classes (may be in 2nd/3rd week of august). As from my knowledge, it takes 6-9 months for COS approval from H1B to F1. After applying COS H1B to F1 with university, my status will be COS H1B to F1 pending. Can my wife apply for visa at US consulate while my COS H1B to F1 is pending with USCIS? If yes, then what visa type should she should apply (H4 or F2)? Quote Link to comment
