ParitB
Hi, I received my GC recently (4 months back). Pls note I had received EAD 9 years back. I switched many employers since then based on AC21. My current employer (with whom I am for last 2.5 years) provided I485 supp J based on which i got the GC. So, is it ok to switch to other employer now? Will there be an issue during naturalization ? Kindly advise. Quote Link to comment
pontevecchio
Career Progression or increased salary is a reasonable reason for changing jobs in this context. It has been suggested 6 months is a reasonable period without any other reasons. In case of doubt discuss the specifics with a lawyer. Quote Link to comment
JoeF
Generally the rule is that at the time of getting the GC you can't have the intent of changing jobs. Now, it is obviously hard to show intent, so the usual way is to stay with the GC employer for some time. Recommended is 6 months, but it depends on the individual circumstances. You may want to discuss your situation with a good immigration lawyer. Edited December 3, 2021 by JoeF Quote Link to comment
ParitB
Thanks for your guidance. One qq pls..to avoid any ambiguity with uscis, if i postpone my naturalization by a year i.e apply for citizenship after six years after getting GC, will that help to avoid any questions from uscis as to what i did in the first year after my GC? As i read on the internet, uscis looks for last 5 years of your employment history. Quote Link to comment
