H1B EXTENSION BEFORE / BASED ON PASSPORT EXPIRY DATE

Hi All,

 

My H1B is going to expire SEP 2021 and planning to file extension but unfortunately , my Indian passport is also going to to expire on FEB 2022 (after 5 months of H1B expire). So one of my friends said if I file H1b extension now it will be approved till FEB 2022 only (till my passport end date) instead of 3 years from SEP 2021.

So please suggest should i renew my indian passport first before apply for H1B extension or there is no relation and dependency between passport renewal and H1B extension.

It's really urgent , please help and suggest  should I go ahead and file my H1B extension before passport renewal or first renew my passport and then apply for H1B extension?  

H1B expires on : SEP 2021

indian passport : FEB 2022

Good idea to renew passport.  Your employer/attorney must have already asked you to renew it.

Ask your employer who submits your petition. They will guide you...

I feel you are good. I know that for visa interview they will ask passport must be minimum 6 months validity..
