H1B transfer without current extension approval copy not yet received

My H1B extension was recently approved, yet to receive paper copy of I-797.

I have 140 approved with 180 days criteria complete for the current employer. I work in EC model, my current project is ending soon and I have an offer from new employer.

I have following questions -

  1. Can transfer be initiated for the new employer at this point based on online approval notification Or do I need to wait until paper copy of I-797 is received?
  2. Is it safe to join new employer on receipt or wait until transfer is successful? How soon can I join the new employer?
  3. What are the documents required for the transfer?
  4. Will my current employer know that I have started transfer?
  5. Will I fall into 60 days grace period if current employer revokes my current H1B after project is over and transfer is pending?

Any guidance is greatly appreciated.

Thank you!

1. Better get paper copy. If not I am sure your new employer can still do transfer.

2. Best advice transfer is complete. On receipt notice

3. Employer will help.

4. Nope.

5. I guess so

@gopalakrishnach Thank you so much for your reply.

I have a follow-up question regarding 60 day grace period. Does the grace period start a day after last pay check period from employer or after the last day of the project with client?
