Is job role change is suggestible before visa stamping for extension?

Firstly, thanks for the wonderful portal. This page is fully informative. I appreciate the blogger

My question about the Job role.

My H1B has picked on Oct 2019 and I planned to go for stamping in March 2020. But I was not able to do due to COVID-19 (I have given the Biometric still passport is with the embassy as visa interview is not yet completed).

Now, I'm about to file extension as the H1 validity is about to expiry in Sep 2020.

But, my employer wants to change my job role due to salary concern.

Is it suggestible to change the job role now before my visa gets stamping?

Also, please advise about my passport is it safe or not. How will I get it stamped and get it received to me.
