pappu2003 Posted July 22, 2020 Report Posted July 22, 2020 I'm an academic critical care physician. My H1B runs out on 30th July. I have a approved petition till 2023 and a I-94 till 6/2023 (recent travel) I want to get my visa stamped in Canada or Mexico on a expedited basis but my university lawyer doesn't want me to. he thinks I'm taking an unnecessary risk. I think I should be safe since I take care of covid patients and have that in writing. I feel the need to have the visa stamped if I have to go to my home country in a pinch. what do you Gurus' think? thank you! Quote
JoeF Posted July 23, 2020 Report Posted July 23, 2020 The borders to Canada and Mexico are closed foe non-essential travel. Going there for stamping is non-essential, so you won't even be allowed to. And it is not needed. Quote
gopalakrishnach Posted July 23, 2020 Report Posted July 23, 2020 If you are already in USA stay in USA. Do not take unnecessary risk if you really do not want to travel out of USA. Quote
pontevecchio Posted July 24, 2020 Report Posted July 24, 2020 You will be safe getting the visa in India should you have to travel. No need to overthink the matter. As an academic Physician, you will have no issues even if the great dictator prevails again. Quote
