1. Would I be considered as a resident of a state where I recently moved to (and have a property) even if the adjustments for my paycheck is delayed and I’m still being taxed in the old state, where I used to reside in?

2. After being in the new stage for 3 months and submitting my application for citizenship, what are the residency requirements until I receive my citizenship? Can I travel to a different country and stay for couple of months for example, and come back for my biometrics and interview?

Residency for naturalization is based on your residency-in-fact, and not the necessarily the paper trail that follows. However, it is advisable to appropriately update your residency information in your documentation. Regarding travel, short-term travel for work or pleasure is acceptable provided you are not moving your residency abroad.

  • 3 months later...

My husband is a US Citizen completing his PhD. I got my GC in July 2017 through our marriage. He had to spend an academic year abroad for his program, and I went with him (a. as he is my husband and we wished to stay together, b. he was studying in my home country, c. we were expecting our first child, d. I was not attached to my job and not on a career path). We left the US between May 2018 and May 2019. We came back a few days before the year mark. We kept our names on the lease of our apartment during this period of time, along with the people subletting from us. Am I eligible for citizenship this coming July, at the three years mark?

Thank you :)
