Gap between H1B expiry and end of 6 year period - do I need an extension filed?

Recommended Posts

Hi all,

My H1b visa is expiring in June, 2020 but my 6 year duration will end in December 2020 (including days not spent in US). My question is that does my company need to apply for an extension for this gap or will I be able to work in my current position without a need for an extension (till the end of my 6 year period)? My company is in process of applying green card for me but I know almost definitely that my application will not reach I-140 status by June (when my H1b expires). Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!
