Drivers license and H1b extension

The driver's license expires on the end date of the h1b. If the extension takes many months to process beyond the end date of the current h1b, then is there any provision for extending the validity of the drivers' license? Or one has to live without DL till the h1b result comes.

You can get DL extended with a receipt notice, check with your dmv.

Which state do you live in?

Each state does it different.

Some states are even good if you use your Indian license and have proff that you are waiting for a decision.

In Texas, when someone goes to the DPS with expired H1B validity then they will send a request to USCIS for verifying the lawful presence and once they get the response from USCIS , they will send you a mail with instructions. if H1B ext/transfer is in pending then you will be in lawful presence and the DPS will grant you a year validity Driver license. This is from my personal experience Nov, 2019.

Hi Atharv, which DPS office? also, do they have any specific rule for this. I have read at many places that some DMV employees know about this and approve DL while others reject extension of DL.

They ask I94 and latest approved immigration document. Few of my friends had no license until petition is approved...

I live in Delaware and have this same exact situation. Heard from friend that they don’t renew with receipt notice in DE but I am going in next week to see what they say. My attorney refuses to send me original receipt notice for some reason.. can my attorney withhold sharing original document?

 

If somebody can share their previous experience on both my issues listed that will be great.
