Passport renewal while COS application is processing with USCIS

Hello,

I have submitted my papers to the USCIS to change my visa status from H1 to H4. I have received the H4 COS petition receipt from the USCIS. My passport is set to expire soon. Considering COS process can take a few months, I was hoping to get my passport renewed in the US while my H4 petition is still pending with USCIS. Is this allowed as USCIS has my current passport number in the COS application which will change if I renewed my passport.

Any inputs in this regard would be appreciated.

How long is your passport valid for?

Better would have been extend passport and then apply for H4. Best course of action if passport extension needed start the process and USCIS sends you and RFE you can take care that later. I feel you need by max 2 months for passort to be renewed...
