H1B approved. Need to move home for personal reasons

Recommended Posts

Hello. My H1B application through company A was approved this year. Unfortunately, because of personal circumstances, I have to resign and return home as soon as possible. I was planning on leaving mid-September.

1. Would it be more prudent to wait till October or would this not make a difference to my ability to potentially apply for an H1B Transfer if I decide to come back to work for Company A a few years down the line? I know my change of status would be abandoned: does this affect H1B transfers?

2. If it is possible for me to retain this future ability, would I have to return home, get a stamp at my local consulate, come back to the US, work for a bit, and then quit? And presumably do all of this after October?

Just trying to figure out the best solution for myself at this point. Thanks all!
