chaithuses Posted November 23, 2017 Report Posted November 23, 2017 Hello All, I came to the US in Jan 2016 as a master's student at University of Connecticut. I was planning to graduate by May 2017 and have applied for OPT accordingly. My last working day of my last semester, according to the i20 (once i applied for OPT) was May 22, 2017. However, on May 31, 2017, i learnt that i couldn't fulfill my degree requirements and hence, i have to take another course in order to get my degree. On consultation with the International Students office at our School, i decided to apply for Reinstatement of my F-1 Visa, using form I-539. Because of various reasons my application got delayed and i finally sent it for Processing on August 31, 2017 (after extending my studies for the semester of Fall 2017). Few days later, i got my receipt notice with my name wrongly printed on it. I immediately reported it to the USCIS Service Center. They have modified my name on the Application on September 29, 2017. Since then, there's no change in my application status. It's known by my Receipt Notice that my Application has been sent to the Vermont Service Center where currently, similar cases to mine applied on March 13, 2017 are being processed. I will complete my studies on December 15, 2017 and hence, my 60 days grace period will end on February 15, 2018, as pointed out by my International adviser. I'm honestly not able to decide whether to hope that my reinstatement gets processed in time and i can apply for my OPT? or to not be hopeful and try employment at other countries. Is there any way where i could expedite the processing of my application? Please suggest me! Thanks in advance!
