Padma.gladiator Posted November 16, 2017 Report Posted November 16, 2017 Hi, My passport is going to expire within 6 months. I planning to update my place of birth in the passport when I apply for renewal. In my first passport, district and state name was printed instead of the city name. The reason I'm thinking to update is because our attorney has mentioned that city name/place of birth in birth certificate and passport should match. So, in order to stay away from confusion and keep everything the same, I'm planning to update that during passport renewal. So, in regards to that I would like to know if there is a possibility of any of the below issues: 1. I'm currently on H1-B visa. If place of birth is updated, Will I face any issues during the port of entry or when I go for visa stamping? Because, first passport will have different thing printed for place of birth and second passport has a different one for the same field. Is that considered as data mismatch? 2. I have my I-140 approved. Our attorney has put the city name(from my the birth certificate) as place of birth in the I-140 application. So, if I update the same in my passport, will there be any issues with further green card processing (485 and moving forward)? 3. When I apply my next H1-B renewal, will there be any issues? Because all my previous H1's have same place of birth as in my first passport. I would really appreciate if anyone could help/suggest me out with my questions. Thanks in advance! -Padma

No, you wont face any issues. These types of corrections happen all the time. They are well aware of that 2. No, absolutely no issues. and you attorney is already aware and he should have told you if there are issues 3. No, no issues here as well

The Other Guy Posted November 26, 2017 Report Posted November 26, 2017 I did update DOB in my passport. Basically i got a new passport with the correct DOB printed in it and they put a "Cancelled" seal in the other passport. Once this was done, my employer made an amendment to h1b petition to update this details. When i went for visa stamping, i took both the passports, but no-one asked the old passport ( I had my previous 2 visas in the old passport). No issues at port of entry as well. I always carry the previous passport with me when i travel/go for visa interview incase if they ask.
