ImmRon Posted November 15, 2017 Report Posted November 15, 2017 I’m an F1 student on my first year of OPT extension. I still have 20months. My employer has agreed to file an h1b for me since last year but I stalled because I thought it would be better to wait till after my opt extension expires. I work for an employer that has no cap (university) and from what I gather I have assurance that I will get the h1b once I apply, it just may take a few months. My question is, do you think it is wise till wait toward the end of my opt extension, say 9 months before to start the h1b processing or should I start now? The reason I’ve been unsure whether to start now is because I also plan to apply for medical residency next year and I’m not sure if having an H1b already improves my chances of matching. so my questions are: 1. Is it a good idea to delay my h1b application so I can make use of my opt extension? ( I learned there is a 6 year limit for h1b and I wanted to push my limit forward as much as possible) 2. Does having an h1b Visa already make me a more attractive candidate for medical residency programs in the US? sorry for the long convoluted question. So many thoughts in my head :)
