patelp Posted November 2, 2017 Report Posted November 2, 2017 My parents have applied for their 10 Yr GC renewal in Mar 2017. The got their fingerprint done in the same month and during that appointment, ASC put a sticker on the back of their card extending the validity of the GC till Jan 2018. Post that, sometime in Jun 2016, due to the health of my grandmother back in home country they had to travel back. Since then they have been in India to help my grandmother. Now if I look at the current GC renewal processing times, it shows Oct 2016. Based on that it can take more than their current extended validity of the card and due to health problem what if they can not return to US before Jan 2016. What are the options for them?
directory0818 Posted November 3, 2017 Report Posted November 3, 2017 gc is meant to stay in usa, pay health insurance and doctors fee in usa.
JoeF Posted November 3, 2017 Report Posted November 3, 2017 Your dates seem to be a bit off. I couldn't get a clear picture of the timeline. If they have been abroad for over a year, the GC is considered abandoned, unless they got a reentry permit before leaving. Exceptions exist if they were unable to travel, e.g., due to a hospital stay. Bad health of relatives is unfortunately not a valid reason.
patelp Posted November 4, 2017 Author Report Posted November 4, 2017 Joe, yes you are correct. Typo on the dates. They applied in Mar 2017 and went out of country in Jun 2017.
