H4 EAD extension while traveling out of US

Hi,
My wife's H4 EAD and her H4 visa stamp expired on 05 Oct 2017. My visa stamp (primary H1B visa beneficiary) also expired on 05 oct 2017. However we received the I797 approval notice of visa extension in may 2017.

We have to travel india between 25th nov to 23rd dec 2017, during when we will visit mumbai US consulate for visa stamping.

Given this situation would it be prudent to file the H4 EAD extension for my wife before we leave for india ?

Is there a possibility of getting a RFE or NOID since we currently don't have valid stamp, and, I94 will change when we travel ?

I suspect h4 ead might get denied stating you left country on 11-25-2017.
