L1B to L1A conversion

Hi,

I am from India. My L1B visa is expired on Jun'17 and my company applied for L1A conversion. Recently the petition was approved and i received I-797A form.

The Visa on my passport is still with Jun'17 and if i go outside of US, i must come after stamping at consulate. 

Do i need to visit my home country(India) for stamping or can i go to Canada/mexico near countries? Please advise.
