Raghu0418 Posted September 26, 2017 Report Posted September 26, 2017 Even am in same boat,But they will renew with receipt number surely. I went VA DMV after expiration date the renew it for 1 year.
Neda Posted September 26, 2017 Report Posted September 26, 2017 I think you should have a valid 797. Getting DL in IL is little bit difficult, for example, they ask H4 SSN for DL. I had lot of trouble getting DL for my wife. This is another challenge for being on H1 status.
Chai Posted September 27, 2017 Report Posted September 27, 2017 Sorry to hear about your ordeal. But it is not as troubling as you are thinking. There are few options for you: 1. Get a letter from your immigration attorney addressing specifically to DMV officer. This letter may mention that you are in legal status and H1-B renewal if approved, it will be for minimum of 1 year or 3 years (based on his discretion). Since, the premium processing for EOS is suspended, the company cannot expedite the process, even if, it wants to. Attorney shall guide you in the process. 2. There is no harm to ask about "Federally Non-compliant Driver's License" in your case. Not sure if IL has it but there are several states, which have it. You can use such kind of driver's license ONLY for driving. It CANNOT be used as an identity proof. Google it for more information.
