H1B Amendment while H1B US Stay Extension is in USCIS processing

I am currently in USA. My current VISA is expired, so I have applied for H1B extension stay in the US, and it is currently in processing. USCIS website shows that the case is received. But in between i need to move to another project with in the US, can i apply for H1B Amendment even when the H1B ext petition still in processing with in the USA.
