L1B transfer to F1 visa change

Hi,

I'm currently working in USA on L1B visa. I'm also studying part time in a reputed university.

My L1 will expire 2019 Jan.

Bcz of various reasons, I would like to do study full time starting from next spring, that's from around Feb 2018.

I need help understanding how the L1 to F1 transition happens. As Im already   studying part time, will there be any reason why I may not get F1 visa?

Once F1 is approved, will my L1 visa immediately become invalid? Because of which I should stop working the day F1 is effective from?

Is there a way to do "initial petition" in F1? Like in H1.

Also, my GC is in second stage. Will that have any impact in getting F1 visa? And also, what would happen to GC application if F1 approved?

Lot of questions! Thanks in advance for your help.

You would get more specific guidance about applying for the F1 visa from your College DSO and you will need an appropriate I20 first before applying for the F1 visa or even a COS. Approved I-140 means Immigrant intent and you may not get F1 status or the F1 visa unless your institution is renowned and your logic for doing the course is sound. Once your status changes to F1 your L1 status is invalid. A GC application is not affected by applying for a F1 visa. It would be rare for a person with approved I-140 to get F1 status unless the institution is renowned. Talk to your DSO with all sorts of specific questions and feel free to post any more queries here.
