ggn979 Posted August 28, 2017 Report Posted August 28, 2017 Hi , I am on H-1B and having 140 approval. Waiting for my priority date (mine is 11/2011). I have been waiting for the Green card and buy a Home. But due to so much delay and current situation in immigration process I don't think I would get GC so soon. Is it safe to buy a home being an non-immigrant considering my situation mention in above?
Gowtham Thotapalli Posted August 28, 2017 Report Posted August 28, 2017 Hi, I am on H1. I bought a house here 2 years back with out even 140. The only challenge I see is the uncertainty with immigration.
Stuck_with_H1B Posted August 30, 2017 Report Posted August 30, 2017 Buying the house and H1B with approved i140 are two different things altogether. Though I can understand your concern since your immigration status puts you in a uncertain situation. I would say if it would have been your dream to buy the house here then do not wait for green card, considering they have recently decided to add a new interview process for employment based green cards I do not think 11/2011 priority date would be coming any soon(at least 3-4 years). Few questions you should ask to yourself: 1. Can you wait for 4 more years to buy a house? 2. If in-case your green card process takes an unexpected turn then do you have all mean and resources to quickly sell your home and leave the country? If you have satisfactory answers for these questions then I would say go ahead and buy the house you and your family like. Life is short and there is no point delaying all other plans of life for green card which is handled by broken immigration system and least concerned politicians. Thanks!
