H4 to H1 status back with already used H1B

Hello Friends - Please suggest. Appreciate your suggestions for the below query.

I am an MNC corporate employee. I Got H1B in the year 2015 through this MNC Corporate and I traveled to US with the same H1B. Worked for 10 months. As I have worked for 10 months, I have SSN, Tax retruns and all basic documents.  At the end of year 2015, I went back to India.

In the year 2016, to join my spouse in US, I took H4 through my Spouse company and got H4 stamping in India (My Original H1 stamping is not cancelled and having stamping validity until September 2017). I have entered US in the year 2016 with H4 status. Currrently I am in US with H4 status.

Now, I am planning to work with my H1B, which was used for 10 months here. I found an employer i.e. who is ready to provide employment which is relevant to my same IT domain. To start working, I need go for COS and also, H1B Transfer cum EXTENSION.

Please suggest-

1) If I initiate H4 to H1 COS along with H1B Transfer cum Extension ==> when can I start working? Like Should I wait till H1 and COS is approved 

OR

Can I start working after Receiving the Receipt Number as I have SSN number available and my original H1B is still having in valid dates.

Appreciate your detailed reply with suggestions.

You need to wait for H1 petition approval before you start work.

I was also travelling in the same boat. However, I have my valid H1b until Dec 2018.

Can I start working after Receiving the Receipt Number as I have SSN number available and my original H1B is valid until 2018 ? Or Do i need to wait for the petition approval?

If you are not in H1 status, you have to wait for the approval.
