I work as a consultant and I'm on bench now, how long can I stay in the country without a project? how long can i stay in the country after my employer stops running my payroll ?

My h1 expires in September, without having it extended can I still stay in the country?

you will be out of status if your employer stops running your payroll on H-1B.

You need to get paid at all times on H-1B unless you are out of country

On H1, you need to get paid all the time, even on bench.

If you are not getting paid, you are out of status.

And this has to be for real (some shady consulting companies fake payroll, like the employee having to pay it back.) Fake payroll would get you into really big trouble.
