H1b Stamping Administrative Processing 221(G) Kol Embassy

Hi,

I have completed my masters in Industrial and Systems Engineering from a reputed university in US. After that I am currently working for a very big bank as Technology Associate for the last one and half years. I have my H1b approved this year and came to Kolkata for stamping. I went for stamping yesterday. This was my experience:

Me: Morning

VO: Morning. Please pass your documents.

I passed I797 , H1b package and PP.

VO: Whats your purpose of Visa application?

Me: Employment Purpose.

VO: Did you have an employment visa before?

ME: No , I was on F1 Student visa before.

VO: Whats is your highest level of education?

ME: Master Of Science.

VO: Which University?

ME: XYZ University

VO: Which department?

ME: Industrial and Systems Engineering.

VO: Where do you work now?

ME: XYZ bank.

VO: Whats do you do there?

ME: Technology Associate. Continued to explain my responsibilities.

VO: So you are an internal employee for the bank?

ME: Yes

VO: When did you graduate?

ME: Last year summer semester.

VO: So you have been working on OPT from then?

ME: Yes

VO: Whats your total experience on this field?

ME: I am working currently for 1 and half years in US. Before than I worked for 2 years in India and also I did internship for 2 and 1/2 months.

VO: What did you use for your internship?

ME: CPT

VO: Was there any break after your CPT?

ME: No

VO typed a few things. Picked a small sheet wrote SEVi on it and stuck it to my PP. Kept it with her. Picket white 221 (G). Asked me to give fingerprint.

VO: I will have to do some administrative processing.I am keeping your passport.Handed me over the white sheet.

ME: How long do you think it is going to take?

VO: 2 to 3 weeks max.

ME: Thanks.

I am really confused why I am issued this 221g. I never had any issue with immigration. Had a very straight forward career and education. work for direct client which is a very big MNC. I am also not sure what did she mean by break after CPT. Can anyone please help here?

Looks like a routine admin processing. Don't worry. You will get the stamped passport in 2 to 3 weeks.

YES it is just a routine Admin work. Lately every one who is converting the F1 visa to H1B is going thru an Admin process in India no matter how good school you went to or how good your job is.  Don't be alarmed , you will receive your passport in a week
