Dropbox passport pickup

Hello,

My visa is approved(Dropbox) on 23rd Dec, 2016 at Hyderabad. I got a message today saying that I need to pick up the passport from pickup location in Hyderabad within 5 days otherwise it will be sent back to the respective Embassy or Consulate. What does "sent back to the respective Embassy or Consulate" mean and what will happen if I don't pick up the passport in 5 days and what is the procedure to pick up the passport if I don't pick up it in next 5 days.

Passports are supposed to be picked up from the respective Service Centers and not from the embassy. So if you do not pick up your passport from the Service Center at Hyderabad, the service center will send it back to the US Embassy in Hyderabad and then you will have to go there at the designated day and time to pick up your passport.

***The day/times for picking up passports are very inconvenient so try to pick up your passport from the Service Center itself or provide an authority letter to someone to pick up on your behalf. In fact for Hyd. the website says that you can only collect from embassy on third wednesday of the month from 1400-1600 hrs and that too only with appointment.
