Passport updated after filing H1 B Ext with USCIS

Hi,
Is there a way I can update my passport after filing with USCIS.I have already filed my H1 B extension, after I applied for new passport and got a new one.

This is scenario 

Applied H1 B extension with USCIS last year Dec 2015 with Passport validity until Oct 2016.

After that I applied passport renewal and got new passport.

You might get an RFE. Once you get that you can respond to USCIS.

were you able to get a new Indian passport while you were H1b extension in progress? what was your Visa Expiration date when you applied for passport renewal?

 

I want to apply for passport renewal but my visa expired in August 2016, can i do it based on your experience?
