H1B picked up by lottery but denied

Hi, 

My H1 was picked up by the lottery (cap exempt) in April 2016  but was denied(because no client letter). 

My question is : can I go back to India now, get a project under a different employer next year, and start working in the usa without having to again apply for H1 in the lottery(since the h1 application was already picked up)?

Huh? If it was in the lottery, it was not cap-exempt.

A new employer can file in next year's quota. You have not been counted, because the H1 was denied. It is not an "H1 picked up" quota, it is an "H1 approved" quota.
