s.raghava09@gmail.com Posted October 23, 2016 Report Posted October 23, 2016 Hello all, I’m in a very tough position regarding OPT-Extension I am an international student graduated from XXXX University - Atlanta, GA in Dec 2015. I was issued an OPT I-20 with CIPP code 11.0103 upon graduation which happens to fall under STEM approved CIPP codes ( Attached the list for reference). My OPT started on 15 Jan 2016 and will be expiring on 14 Jan 2017. After completion of 9 months of my OPT, I received an information saying that my DSO is denying to issue an I20 for OPT extension with same CIPP code (11.0103). Whereas, students who graduated in Aug 2015 were issued I-20 for OPT extension with the same CIPP code (11.0103) issued initially. They applied for extension and USCIS approved their extension too. My concern is that being a student who took same course, paid same fee and received same I-20 for initial OPT application is now being denied to issue an I-20 for OPT extension with 11.0103 CIPP code. On the flip side my DSO is ready to issue an I-20 with a CIPP code 52.0299 which does not fall under STEM approved codes. Applying for an extension with this code does not make any sense as it would not be considered by USCIS officials in first place. Can anyone help out with this situation ?? Can I approach attorney ?? It is the concern of all the students of my batch and upcoming batches too.
shekar11# Posted October 24, 2016 Report Posted October 24, 2016 You should approach an attorney as soon as possible. They will be able to guide you.
