madhavid Posted November 20, 2015 Report Share Posted November 20, 2015 Dear All, I am on H4 visa and I have recently moved to Dallas, TX I had applied for volunteer job in a library, but they say SSN is mandatory for background check and my application was rejected. In Dallas even for driving licence they require SSN. Please advice 1 can I volunteer in Dallas without SSN, 2 can I apply for SSN 3 How do I apply for driver licence Link to comment
JoeF Posted November 20, 2015 Report Share Posted November 20, 2015 On H4, you can not get an SSN. Period. The social security office can give you a letter that you don't qualify for an SSN. That should be good enough for the DMV. Link to comment

JoeF Posted November 24, 2015 Report Share Posted November 24, 2015 You can volunteer in situations where everybody else also volunteers. A classic example is volunteering for a church. If there are others who get paid for the same or similar job, then you can not volunteer. Link to comment
