Chandralekha Navin
Hi, I am currently on H4 and my H1B application is approved. I have the following questions related to SSN. Your inputs will be really helpful. 1. In I94 online portal, my I94 record shows admission class as H4 and admit until date as H4 expiry date. On 1st Oct, will I94 record get updated automatically based on my H1B approval notice? 2. I want to apply for my SSN as soon as possible. However in SSA portal for non-citizen document states that "We recommend you wait 10 days after arriving in the United States to apply for a Social Security number to make it easier for us to verify your DHS documents online, which will speed processing of your Social Security number application". Do I need to wait for 10 days? I ask this because I am already in US. Will it take longer for SSA to get verification from USCIS? Thanks, Chandralekha Link to comment
jairichi
1. Yes, if approved as COS. 2. You can approach SSN office on 1st Oct. Link to comment
JoeF
You can apply for an SSN from Oct. 1 on. Note that the employer needs to pay you even if you don't have the SSN yet. Link to comment
