Travel to India on tourists visa

We have applied for naturalization and expect it to be approved shortly. Soon after, we intend travelling to India on tourist visas and apply for OCI cards during our stay in India. So, we intend getting only one-way air tickets to India. My doubt is whether the Immigration authorities at the port of entry in India will insist on a return ticket before allowing us to enter. (We are aware that tourist visa holders can stay in India only for 6 months during each visit which cannot be extended and that if the OCI cards are delayed we may have to return to USA after 6 months.)

Every country's immigration officials expects tourist to have valid return tickets. Better have them.
