Layoff on H1B

I am on 8th year H1B and have approved I-140. There is a chance of layoffs in my company. Do I have an option to apply for B2 status and while B2 application is pending apply for jobs.After finding a job can my new company transfer my status from B2 to H1 (assuming I140 is not withdrawn). Will there be issues during transfer? Has anyone done this before? Please share you experience. Thanks.

You need to apply for B2 status and while B2 application is pending apply for jobs.After finding a job new can  company transfer  status from B2 to H1 (assuming I140 is not withdrawn)

In such cases best option is to get new H-1B filed before your last day at current company.

It is unlikely that a COS to B2 would be approved, due to immigration intent because of the I-140.
