H1B to H4 - Timelines for Quitting Job and Filing Change of Status

My wife and I work on H1B visas and we had a quick question on timelines. 

My wife is planning to quit her job and change her status from H1B to H4 (as my dependent). How should we go about it? 

Option 1. File for a change of status first and wait till its approved before resigning from the current job. And once the change of status is approved, is there a grace time to stop working (she will have to server her two week notice period)?

2. File for change of status to H4 and quit the job simultaneously. If she quits now, she will stop receiving paychecks which will invalidate her H1B. Can she continue to remain in H1B without pay till her change of status is approved?

COS to H4 takes months. Have her file a COS to H4 and on getting the receipt she can then serve her 2 weeks notice. She will be legal to stay till the H4 COS is approved.

My wife is currently on H1 and wants to go back on H4.

Does she has to quite the job when applying COS from H1 to H4 ?

or

She can remain on H1 job untill H4 is approved?

or

She must retain her H1 job untill H4 is approved?

If she wants she can quit the job after applying for COS to H4. 

She can stay and work for H1B employer till her COS to H4 is approved.

She is legal while the COS to H4 is pending, so she can quit the job once the COS to H4 is filed.

Or she can choose to continue the job until the H4 approval. She absolutely has to stop working as soon as the H4 is approved.

You are looking at 4 plus months for COS to H4 approval followed by 90 days for EAD approval.
