I-94 renewal after passport renew

Hi Guys, 

 

I am an Indian Citizen. My I94 expired on April 26th 2016 since my passport was expiring on the same date (Its been about 100 days since it expired now). I got a new passport but did not get a new i94 date. I do have a valid H1B visa till Oct 2017.

Can someone please suggest what should I do at this point? I read a few forums and that is making me confused at this point. 

 

Visit Mexico for a day and come back in?

Or go back home and then come back in after a few days?

Or file i539 for extension of status? 

 

Please suggest what should I do.
