shankar2
Hi, I got my greencard last October, 10. I'm now living in India and will go to US before the 6 months time period. However, I want to know if I can get a reentry permit for Greencard for 2 years so that I can stay in India for 2 years without having to go to USA and then enter USA after 2 years? There used to be a 2 year permit but I can't seem to find any info re: the same in Google. Kindly Assist, Regards, Shankar Link to comment
Joe.F
First, as a PR, you have to live in the US. It is called "Permanent Residence" for a reason. All trips abroad have to be temporary in nature, even if the trip is long. It is NOT and has NEVER been enough to just travel to the US once in a while. You also have to file US tax returns as resident, and you have to declare your worldwide income in them. If you want to go on a long temporary trip abroad, you can get a re-entry permit, form I-131. You have to be in the US to apply for it. But again, the re-entry permit alone doesn't guarantee that you can keep your GC. The main issue is that you have to reside in the US. If you don't, you abandon the GC. Link to comment
