Documents for H4 interview

Recommended Posts

I along with my wife and kid will be appearing for a visa interview at the New Delhi Embassy next week. I seem to have put all the documents for my interview (H1B) in place but am not sure what extra documents will I need for my wife and kid.

Can someone be kind enough to post a list here?

Also, is there an issue if all of us appear for the interview together. I am sure an already issued visa for principal H1B holder is not necessary for a H4 interview.

I can think of these documents to support the H4 for my wife and kid.

1) Wedding document (nikkah)

2) Wedding album

3) Passport endorsed for spouse

4) Invitation card of the wedding

5) Child birth certificate

Am I missing any?

Hi Buddy,

You all can go together to appear for interview as your wife and kid are dependents and you are pricipal visa holder. For H4 all they need is principal applicants valid documents. Pricipal applicant's passport copy, I797 and I129 copy etc., The original marriage certificate is a must. You are not missing any extra docs as long as you have all the H1b docs required in place...

Does a muslim Nikkah document qualify as a valid marriage document or does it have to be a court document? In that case I will need to get magistrate attested certificate or Nikkah document is considered enough for legal purposes like passport etc?

Rule in India is every marriage has to be registered with registrar of marriages. If you can then get your nikkah registered. If not possible you might be fine too.

I got the  Marriage Certificate done from the local court today. The title of the document reads "Marriage Certificate" and is signed by the judicial Magistrate.

The document enumerates the names, addresses, dates , terms and conditions which were laid down in the nikkhah nama and some additional information like date of birth of bride and bridegroom and passport details etc.

Is this going to be enough?

Nikkah document is not a valid government issued document, you have to get your marriage registered with the registrar of marriages (from a District Court or Municipal Registrar).

Nikkah Document do not full fill the authenticity of your marriage due to issued by a non government body.

The Marriage Certificate I got today was issued by a Judicial Magistrate (Judge) and was prepared by an a practicing advocate. I am just trying to verify if this is what qualifies as a Marriage Certificate. I understand there are many versions of it including the one issued by the Registrar of Marriages.

There is nothing called many versions. The official one is the one you get from Registrar of Marriages.
