Passport expiration and H1B Visa expiration

Recommended Posts

Hello,

I need some advice on the following situation:

> My Indian Passport has an expiry date Oct 2016

> My second H1B was recently issued and has an expiry date Dec 2016

1) I am planning to go to India after 2 month so do I have to apply for a new passport before I go to visa interview? Or will I be fine with my current passport?

2) Do I have to apply a for passport here in US or do it in India?

3) What are my options?

Thanks...

1. You are fine with existing passport.

2. Better to extend at appropriate time in US.

First of all, you can only renew your passport if it is expiring in less than an year.

If there is no change in your passport (address, name ..etc) it is better to renew in India, you will get it in 2-3 days only, here in US it will take up to 2-3 months depends on your location and you dont want to pay 91$ dollars, you can renew it for 1500 INR, but the thing is you may not be in India in 2016?
