Passport validity for travel to US for GC holder

I know for non-immigrant/visitor's visa applicants from India, they need to have atleast 6 months of passport valid before travelling to USA. Does that rule also apply if you're a US permanent resident (GC holder) ? In other words, can GC Holder with India passport travel from India to US with passport expiring in less than 6 months? Can it cause issue with airlines or at POE in USA?
